Maybelline BB Stick: Swatches, FOTD and Review

Do you remember the childhood days of capes and jumping-the-lava? I never was the stereotyped, if-you-didn't-do-this-you-never-had-a-childhood kid, or a I-own-a-million-barbies girl. I was more of a tomboy back then. I had a strong inclination for blacks and had sworn never to wear lipsticks because 'Eewwww! That is like eating craaayons' My kid brain thought it was aunty types to grow long hair. I used to nibble my nails and a part of my fingers off. Ha! That is one of the reasons Batman was my favorite super hero B) He was black, he was cool. I somehow detested the Powerpuff girls. I mean, Buttercup? A cup of butter?, thought 10 year old me. Fast forward 6 years, and *sigh*, pink happened. From an avid Tomboy to 'Ooooo I have to buy coral lippie for summer' 'Boy, I totally need to buy new nail paints already! I mean, my collection of 30+ nail paints doesn't have summer colors hmph!

What still remains the same? My superheroes ^_^ Just that I find them in make up now.

Introducing my Dark Knight, the very awesome Maybelline BB Stick.

There are two shades available:

Radiance and Fawn. I got the fawn.

Cost: Rs.250/- for 10 grams

Shelf life: 30 months

The product comes in a twist up packaging in a sturdy plastic container. Teal = winner.

I was skeptical when I initially received the product. A stick to slide on skin and give coverage?
And then, magic happened.

The stick glides on like a dream, I kid you not. I applied it after moisturizering and it was super easy to blend it. Here is a picture of just the stick and kajal on my face. I haven't set it with compact yet.

Notice how the redness is almost not there?

This is after I set it with compact.

The yellow tinge just wouldn't go away. Or was it too harsh a sunlight?

And this picture is after 6 hours of wear and a touch up with compact. My nose and chin got a little oily after like three hours.

The redness is noticeable here. The stick had faded away a little, I think.

Awesome, right? Do you notice the amazing coverage? It has concealed all the redness. I haven't used any concealer here. *Excuse my dark circles though, I have been sleep deprived* It did do a commendable job in covering a little of the dark circles too.

So how do I use it?

1. I cleanse and tone the skin and apply moisturizer.
2. I dab it on my forehead, chin, cheeks and the nose and blend with mild pressure.
3. I re-apply on dark circles and eye lids, blend.
*Optional: Concealer*
4. I set it with compact as I have oily skin.
5. Finish with a swipe of kajal, mascara and lipstick.

It didn't break me out and neither did irritate my existing acne as it contains salicylic acid.

Lets list the pros and cons already!

  • Gives a good coverage for blemishes.
  • Blends super easily, glides like a dream.
  • If you have mild dark circles, consider them concealed too.
  • Doesn't break out/irritate the skin.
  • Contain SPF 21
  • Easily available across all Maybelline counters and major online shopping portals.
  • It makes the brightness and the color of the lippies stand out.
  • Sweat resistant
  • Contains salicylic acid.
  • Super affordable
  • Travel friendly packaging
  • Smooth finish. The pores are minimized and skin looks radiant.
  • Gives a nice glow.
  • Doesn't feel heavy on the skin, its light weight.

The cons:

1. Shades. There are just two shades available. I got the fawn, but it is dark for me and goes yellow on my skin. From the swatches that I found, Radiance might suit me better. But finding a shade for every skin tone from these two shades might be difficult. Maybelline, do give us a range of shades and we will love you all the more.

My rating?
4.5/5 Its an excellent product, I have no cons. -0.5 for lack of shades.

You guys used it? Loved it? No? Let me know!

PS: Product sent by PR for review purpose. My opinions are honest, hand on heart.
