Make a Difference :) - Toybank

Hello my Cupcakes! :)

I am home after an exam, and the way back home that took 3 hours :| Three.Bloody.Hours. I don't understand the traffic jams at 2.30 P.M. No I don't.

Before I start pouring out a rant, let me introduce the latest section of Life is a Fairytale :)

Starting from today, I'll post about NGOs that are doing a commandable job and need limelight. Agreed, my blog is VERY tiny to be of any help, but if it helps a teeny bit, why not do my part? :) So here it is, the first post :)

How many of us remember all the Barbie dolls and Ben 10s from childhood? How many dolls did we bathe, sooth, pamper and lullaby-ed to sleep? How many broken ones? How many plucked eyes and disastrous haired ones? How many favorite dolls named after best friends? The teddy bears that we hugged to sleep? Its all a part of the beautiful childhood we were fortunate enough to have. And today, all those dolls probably are thrown away GodKnowsWhere. Except for the preserved very few, those toys are just a part of nostalgia.

Lets look at another face of it. Your maid servant's daughter, the girl with the oily pig tails and innocent smile on her face, what is her toy? A doll made of rags? Broken toy car that someone else gave away in charity? Or worse, no toy?

Wouldn't it be beautiful if we had saved all those toys for kids like her? Instead of throwing them away carelessly and polluting the planet (all the chemicals, plastic etc., used in the making), kept them in a neat place? Or if there was someone who could collect them and give it to the needy? That someone is Toybank.

This is what they do:

Activity:
Toybank, a non-profit organization has been set up with the aim of providing toys to children who come from a weak socio-economic background.
Details:
Goals:

  • To ensure that children from under privileged backgrounds receive toys through collection and distributions.
  • To bridge the gap between children from different backgrounds by creative play/group events/community events.
  • To make play space available for children through-- Toy libraries in available infrastructures; reclaim open public spaces for children.
  • To design and thus provide toys that will be context specific, by having toys made in local languages as well.

Support: Children, Right to Play, Right to Leisure, non-formal education, toys.

Toybank is based in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, UK and Bhutan.

You can do your bit by giving away what you have, or by spreading the world.

Lets not wait for 'The Change' to come and greet us, let us make a move in the direction and be the change we want :)

Love,
Namita

Note: We are looking for volunteer coordinators in Pune and Bangalore. We are looking for NGOs working on education of children in Delhi/NCR.
This post is a part of BlogAdda's Bloggers Social Responsibility (BSR) initiative. I am exercising my BSR. You can too with three simple steps. Visit http://www.blogadda.com/bsr/  and support the NGO's.

  6. Well said babe! We use to do this for Xmas; we buy new toys that don't cost more than rm10, wrap them up and give them to the orphanage homes. Well, I hope more people will come forward to help these kids.. especially in education; just imagine each of us sponsor one child.. it'll be really great! :)
    XOXO!
